What is the Blue Hen Success Coordinated Care Network?
A non-emergency referral system housed within the Blue Hen Success platform platform to proactively connect undergraduate students to campus support services.
How to make a referral
Click the Issue an Alert from your home screen, on a student’s profile, or from your Assigned Students list. Select the appropriate office from the drop-down menu to receive the referral. Additional information and step-by-step instructions available here.
What To Do & NOT To Do
Do NOT use the referral system for urgent, sensitive matters or include any mention of mental health/medical conditions or other personally-sensitive information. The Blue Hen Success Coordinated Care referrals are intended for non-urgent matters such as proactively connecting a student to Career Services or Tutoring. Coordinated Care Network Services
Campus Support Services | Example Referral Reason |
Academic Enrichment – Study Skills | A student seems to need better tools for approaching academic challenges. |
Academic Enrichment – Tutoring | A student has expressed a need for individual, group or drop-in tutoring. |
Assistant Deans/Advising | A student has expressed a need for additional advising support (i.e. guidance in interpreting an academic policy or help with major exploration/change of major.) Learn more about Assistant Dean referrals. |
Career Center | A student has expressed interest in exploring internship/job/graduate school opportunities. |
Dean of Students | A student needs help connecting to campus resources or has expressed the need for a medical leave of absence. Learn more about Dean of Student referrals. |
Disability Support Services | A student asked about how to register for accommodations based on their documentation. |
ELI – English Language Institute | An international student for whom English is not his/her first language needs English language support. |
Library – Research Support | A student expresses concerns over working on/finding resources for their research or multimedia (video, podcast, web) project. |
NUCLEUS | An Arts & Sciences student is looking for ways to connect to campus resources and enhance their undergrad experience through high impact activities. |
ISSS – International Student & Scholar Services | An international student has an immigration case impacting his/her academic progress. |
Residential Life & Housing | A student has expressed concern regarding their roommate relationship. |
Student Diversity & Inclusion | A student has expressed an interest in identifying a greater sense of belonging or affinity space based on diversity, identity, equity, and inclusion. |
Student Financial Services | A student has shared concerns over meeting their student financials or has a financial hold preventing registration and needs assistance. |
Transfer Credit/Transfer Student Services | A transfer student is not sure how transfer credits are counting towards academic requirements. |
Undergraduate Research | A student has expressed interest in getting involved in undergraduate research opportunities on campus. |
Veteran Student Services | A student using GI benefits is considering dropping or withdrawing from a specific class or term. |
Center for Counseling & Student Development
Although the Center for Counseling & Student Development (261 Perkins) isn’t a referral option within the Blue Hen Success platform, they’re an important partner in the Care Network for UD students. A student can call them at 302-831-2141 (MRF 8-5; TW 8-6) to set-up an initial consultation meeting. If you think a student’s needs are urgent, either encourage the student to walk-in during regular office hours or you may call them directly to consult about the student. As a reminder, the UD Helpline is available 24/7/365 at 302-831-1001. Faculty and staff are encourage to review this important CCSD website about resources for students.

How To Make a Referral
Click Issue a Referral from your home screen, on a student’s profile, or from your Assigned Students list. Select the appropriate office from the drop-down menu to receive the referral.
Be aware that anything you write remains as part of a student’s education record – accessible to the student, if requested, and viewable by advisors/staff. Responses to referrals (closed cases) will typically occur within a few business days.
What To Do:
- Use for referrals that are NOT time sensitive or urgent
- Include who you are – e.g., “as this student’s advisor”
- Provide info for the receiving office – e.g.,
“this student could benefit from loan options or career advice from your area”
What NOT To Do
- Do NOT use the referral system for urgent, sensitive matters

Who Is Part of the Coordinated Care Network
Below are a list of University departments that are part of the Coordinated Care Network. Click on each department for an example of a referral reason.

A student can walk-in during regular office hours (M-F 8:30-4) for an initial consultation meeting.
If you think a student’s needs are urgent, either encourage the student to walk-in during regular office hours or call them directly to consult about the student at 302-831-2141.
